YOUR FIRST CHIROPRACTIC VISIT

Welcome New Patients! The following is some useful information about what new patients can expect from Dr. Colner and from Chiropractic. Some of you may be seeking Chiropractic care for the very first time. Dr. Colner wants you to feel confident that you are making the right decision for your health. Here is what you can expect on your first visit. The entire process usually takes about an hour.

Consultation

Dr. Colner will then review your paperwork with you and ask you questions about what health concerns you have. This is a great opportunity for you to ask any questions that you may have regarding Dr. Colner, your health or Chiropractic in general.

New Patient Paperwork

When you first arrive, there will be some paperwork to fill out, including your general contact information, information regarding your current complaint, and information regarding your health history. It is important to fill out the paperwork as honestly and accurately as you can, as this information is important for Dr. Colner to know before examining  and treating you.

To save time, visit our New Patient Portal to download and print our new patient registration forms. You can also fill them out online and email them back to the office before your appointment.

Examination

After going over any questions or concerns you may have, Dr. Colner will perform an examination which usually only takes about 10 to 15 minutes. During the exam, Dr. Colner will perform a series of orthopedic tests, neurological tests and muscle function tests designed to reveal what is causing your pain and/or dysfunction. Additionally, Dr. Colner will be palpating your spine and checking the joints of the vertebral column for motion restriction and misalignment. During the exam Dr. Colner does his best to thoroughly explain what is being done and why he is doing it. Please feel free to ask questions at any time during the examination if there is something you need clarification on.

Report of Findings

After the exam, Dr. Colner will discuss his findings and recommend next steps. Sometimes the next step may include taking some X-Rays of your spine so that Dr. Colner can make an accurate diagnosis and develop a treatment plan that is best suited for your specific condition. Other times Dr. Colner may feel it necessary to refer you out to another health care professional for further evaluation. Most of the time however, following the exam and report of findings, you will receive your first treatment.

First Treatment

The types of procedures done during your treatment will depend greatly upon your condition and diagnosis. Generally, treatments will begin with 15 minutes of electric muscle stimulation and heat/cold packs. These modalities are done before the adjustment to relax muscles and decrease pain, making the adjustments more comfortable and more effective. After the modalities, Dr. Colner will adjust the joints of your spine and/or extremities that were found to have restricted motion. You will then be given some instruction on things you should do at home before your next visit that will help you feel better and heal faster.
